Beta Psi Omega

Beta Psi Omega is a student organization on campus with the primary purpose of helping students help themselves. Their overarching mission is to provide a supportive brotherhood for students pursuing the biological sciences professionally and academically and to further the advancement of biology as a science and as a profession. I personally gained a lot of friends and professional networks through my involvement in this organization. The people in the organization taught me that social development is just as important as any professional development. I have always been an active member of this organization and I strove to be an active leader in the organization as well. As Public Relations Chair, I organized and promoted professional development workshops and provided tutoring, volunteering, and researching opportunities to students.

Colleges Against Cancer

The main goal of Colleges Against Cancer UMD is to help eliminate cancer by raising awareness of programs of the American Cancer Society on campus at the University of Maryland. Students focus on four channels: advocacy, cancer education, Relay for Life, and survivorship. I myself have never personally been affected directly by cancer, but I have family members and friends that have experienced the cruel reality of cancer so I wanted to help in the fight against cancer. I have served as Director of Marketing Communications at the UMD chapter of Colleges Against Cancer for the past 2 years. Through the position, I coordinated and advertised numerous campus-wide events, meetings, and fundraisers. I also designed print and digital media and distributed them through direct and online marketing techniques.
